Tarteist Pro Glow!

This week I decided to tackle the overwhelmingly intimidating (at least for me) world of contouring and highlighting! I don't know if you've experienced the same feeling of equal parts intrigue and terror at the thought of attempting this, but I have to say, after my experiences the past few days, my fears were 100% unsubstanciated! So, if you've been thinking about giving this a try, don't be intimidated - just go for it :)

Last week I started started this process by reading a lot of reviews about a lot of contour kits - seriously I read up on ALL of the contour kits (I might be exaggerating just at teensy bit, but that's how it felt). It seems like pretty much every brand has one, and, I'll be honest, it was pretty overwhelming and I almost just stopped there. But I pressed on and eventually settled on the Tarteist Pro Glow Contour and Highlight Palette thanks to a combination of the many reviews calling it "fool proof" (I felt this was probably best for a contouring virgin such as myself) and the fact that Ulta had it on sale for $27.00 (#winning). I quickly found a video demo on YouTube (Tarte Pro Glow- How To Use/Highlight Contour Tutorial with Maurah) and dove in.... Friends, I am in LOVE with this product! I haven't yet attempted a more dramatic contour, but just for an everyday look, it is seriously AMAZING! And ridiculous easy! And #bonus it smells soooo good (I may have a bit of a thing for makeup that smells really good... Unfortunately for my wallet, this has a tendency to be more expensive makeup :/). I seriously love this so much I've been using it every day this week ... Do I need to contour for work? Probably not. But the it's just sitting right there in my makeup box, and it only takes about 30 seconds to swipe the contour powder and highlight on my cheeks and OMG I FEEL SO GLAMOROUS!!! Seriously, watch out world when I really dive into this thing, because if I'm feeling this fabulous with minimal effort, I might take over the world when I amp it up!

Ok, so my newly inflated ego aside, the Tarteist Pro Glow palette contains two contour options (one cream and one powder), and four highlights (one champagne shade, one pearl, one bronze, and one opalescent), so it can handle pretty much any level of intensity. So far, I've only used the contour powder in Shade and the highlight in Stunner, but I plan to more fully explore the pallet's capabilities in the very near future. Related, shout out to the Real Techniques Sculpting Brush for just being fantastic! I've always felt like a big factor in successful makeup application is the tools that you use, and this one makes it so easy to apply and blend these powders without making me look ridiculous (which was a very real fear when I decided to try this whole contouring thing). I am a huge fan of the Real Techniques brushes in general - they're equally effective at making me look and feel fabulous and affordable (which is definitely a win with a makeup addiction as intense as mine). Tarte makes a contour/highlight brush as well (Slenderizer Bamboo Contouring Brush), but at $34.00 compared to $9.99 for the Real Techniques brush, I decided to go with the less expensive option.
